Just put the finishing touches on our Little Teapot. I'm four years old and filled with wide-eyed excitement and joy, wrapped in love and comfort every time I see it. A long ago hazy memory shared between mother and child. And a feeling that's lasted a lifetime.
With my brother off to school, my mother would treat me to "tea" and toast. Opening the cupboard, she'd get down the "elfenant" - an antique Japanese Satsuma teapot given to her by my great grandmother. Sparkly and gold, the treasured Elephant magically called me to come out and play while at the same time pretend to be a big girl having grown up tea.
I remember it being such a treasure and treat and wanted to capture that playful, childlike quality of it coming to life in my inner child's mind. I hope I put the feelings of pure joy and playfulness in the painting that it brings me.
